Avoid replica furniture
For d line good quality equals authenticity, originality and integrity. d line is, with pride, the sole manufacturer of hardware, bathroom accessories and barrier-free solutions designed by Knud Holscher, Arne Jacobsen and Bjarke Ingels Group.
Nevertheless, it can sometimes be difficult to determine the authenticity of a piece of design. That’s why all d line products are branded with the d line trademark that attests to the originality of the piece and assures that the customer is not subject to replicas.
Certificate of Authenticity
Asserting the authenticity of a design is especially applicable for pieces created by Arne Jacobsen, who is often subject to plagiarism. This is first and foremost illegal but also frustrating for customers who gets a product that in quality, appearance and function is well below the standard of the original.
As January 1st 2019 all Arne Jacobsen designs manufactured by d line will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. All Arne Jacobsen lever handles will further carry the Arne Jacobsen trademark (logo) on the neck of the lever handle.
Our Certificate of Authenticity is a contractual agreement between d line (manufacturer) and Arne Jacobsen Design I/S (designer), incl. the approved materials, finishes, colours and use of trademark on the Arne Jacobsen pieces. The following materials, finishes and colours have been approved:
- Brass and stainless steel (polished or brushed finish).
- PVD coated Copper, Brass, Charcoal and Gunmetal on brushed or polished stainless steel.
- Powder coated RAL 9005 Black, RAL 9016 White, RAL 7047 Telegrey or RAL 7037 Dusty Grey on stainless steel.
*NB.: Coated items (ie. powder coating and darker PVD finishes) will not carry the Arne Jacobsen trademark on the lever handle neck.
Any AJ lever handles that have applied finishes beyond what is mentioned above is not classified as an authentic Arne Jacobsen piece, unless specified differently on this site.
Designs that have applied finishes beyond what is mentioned above will not fall under our 20-year guarantee and any claims made against these items on both function and finish will not be accepted.
Arne Jacobsen in aged brass?
We have received more and more inquiries from customers, who have seen versions of the Arne Jacobsen lever handles and thumb turns in aged brass. Aged brass is not a part of d line’s colour range and it is likewise not d line who performs this surface treatment.
In d line we consider this type of surface treatment as further processing and is therefore not classified as an original Arne Jacobsen design. This also means, that any designs performed in aged brass does not fall under our 20-year guarantee and any claims made against these items on both function and finish will not be accepted.
Arne Jacobsen back plates, key escutcheons and cylinder escutcheons?
Arne Jacobsen designed the AJ lever handle and thumb turn in 1960 for the opening of the world’s first design hotel: SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. d line has subsequently obtained permission to apply the thumb turn design onto a toilet indicator system (red/white indicator).
Arne Jacobsen has not designed back plates, key escutcheons, cylinder escutcheons or any other complimentary hardware items for doors. For these purposes, and to supply a total solution for doors, we recommend that you use hardware accessories from the Knud Holscher collection or from d line’s own collection of key escutcheons.
When you purchase the complete door set from d line, you will also ensure that all colours and finishes match. The d line products are grinded and polished by hand 4 times to reach our satin brushed or polished signature finishes. We always recommend that you carefully select the hardware accessories that are to compliment your Arne Jacobsen lever handle.
